Member Update: Prioritizing Member Access to Care at Providence Facilities in Oregon

On December 30, the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA) announced plans to hold strikes at multiple Oregon care sites including all eight acute-care hospitals beginning Friday, January 10.

As a health plan serving members across Oregon, ensuring access to the care members need is our top priority.

Providence Health Plan (PHP) is well prepared with arrangements with facilities across Oregon including several ambulatory surgery centers, urgent care facilities, Legacy Health System and OHSU to ensure limited disruption of care for members. As always, in life-threatening and emergent situations, PHP covers care at any facility in the state of OR.

While there is undoubtedly an impact to care in services in Oregon, it’s important to note that Providence Health Plan has a deep and vast network of providers. In fact, the majority of our network is comprised of providers outside of the Providence system who are not affected by the labor activity.

Physicians that practice in the affected Providence facilities are actively managing their planned procedures to avoid disruption of care.

Members with concerns about the impact of the strike on a planned procedure should stay in communication with their provider’s office.
