Providence Health Plan's Angi Frary on advice for aspiring female leaders

25 October 2024

Angi Frary, AVP of Account Services at Providence Health Plan (PHP), recently spoke with Candace Beeke, President and publisher of the Portland Business Journal, as part of a BizWomen Coalition series.

They talked about Frary's extensive experience, her role at Providence Health Plan, and her involvement in the community. The questions focused on her career journey and her advice for aspiring female leaders.

Finding what gives you energy

"Many of my career moves have been about trying something new or taking a leap to learn a completely different part of the industry."

As she moved through different roles, Angi learned early in her career that she is energized in roles where she can build relationships, connect with others, and bring people together to find solutions or common ground.

"It's not just about the money, the title, or the upward movement — it's about where I wanted to spend my time, and if I'm not getting energy from it, it is not it's not worth it to me."

Being your full self

"Don't be afraid to try something new, and don't be afraid of failure. It's how we grow. If something goes wrong, you must pick yourself up and keep going."

If you fail, Angi recommends changing your approach, saying the answer is not to stop but to reassess and keep going. Discover how your organization supports people and if it's a place where you can build community and be your full self.

"There are a variety of needs and challenges women face within the same organization. We all experience it differently, but we all need a place that can support us as people."
