Frequently asked questions
-
How long can I stay on my parent’s insurance after I turn 26?
If you are covered under your parent’s employer or Individual & Family policy, you will lose coverage after the last day of the month in which you turn 26. You have up to 60 days after the date you lose coverage to choose a new health plan. If you do not choose a health plan within that timeframe, you may be required to wait until Open Enrollment to apply for coverage.
If you are covered under your parent’s Health Insurance Marketplace® policy, you will be removed from your parent’s policy at the end of the plan year (Dec. 31). You should expect to receive notification and instructions from the Health Insurance Marketplace® when they re-enroll you as a subscriber on your own plan.
